Morag

I am one of the contributors to the Listening Walk, an anthology of 40 poets from the Bath Poetry Cafe. A relatively new member of the Fountain Poets, I wrote this poem reflecting on being made so welcome in such good company

at the fountain

we stumble on entry
do not remember names
cannot see faces
our words in winter
white on the page

you listen attentively
encourage, applaud
room at the inn
for these scattered thoughts
fledgling ideas
that could be scattered
on fallow land

holding the centre
loving language
sharing joy and loss
we feel valued
unexpectedly included

pilgrims may have stayed
finding refreshment
seeking sanctuary

we drink from the well
companions who
value the small voice
that can still
